Analecia knocked on the door, and started humming under her breath while she waited for someone to answer the door.

A loud 'thump,' could be heard from the other side of the door, followed by a colorful string of swear words. Some scuttling was heard, a few more curses, and finally the door knob jiggled, the door flying open to reveal a young adult, looking as if she had just woke up.
"What brings you to my dorm at such an unholy hour of the day?" the girl groaned, though she seemed more tired than upset.
Smurf was wearing rather casual clothes, or at least, what she considered casual. A rumpled, long-sleeved black and blue striped shirt that said in simple white letters 'Weird' was worn with black pair of gauchos, smudged with random spots of bright paint. Her light blond hair, marked streaked with the trademark indigo blue, was thrown up into a messy bun. She wore a pair of dark blue ankle socks, her black converses laying in a heap by her bed, multi-colored paper clips still clinging to their white laces.
Behind her lay a messy room. It was bright with orange and blue colors, among lime green and ocean blue. Many crumpled pieces of paper lay upon the floor, her waste basket already over-flowing from its position by her desk. The clock on the wall showed it was only one o'clock, her break period almost up. A stack of books, mostly fantasies, lay in a heap by her school books. Smurf yawned again, shaking herself from her half-asleep phase.
"Sorry 'bout the mess, they don't seem to have maids here," she apologized. Her voice was rather flat, lacking the New York accent, sticking out like a sore thumb among her classmates. It was the Midwestern accent--or lack thereof--giving away the fact that she wasn't from New York. Well, that gave it away, along with the fact that her room had a large South Dakota shaped poster plastered to the wall.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize it was so late." Analecia said sheepishly. "I just wanted to get to know my dorm mates. I can come back some other time, if you want me to." She said, her soft, southern accent sticking out like a sore thumb from the rest of the college students.

"No, then I'll seem rude, not that I'm denying I am," Smurf stated with an impish grin, her personality coming through her sleepiness as she opened the door wider. "Besides, you don't have that weird New York accent, which makes you a welcome guest among the weird, lacking accent, South Dakotian, a.k.a me."
Moving a pile of clothes from the couch, she grinned sheepishly once again. Her room was a mess without her mother constantly screeching for her to clean it. Looks like her mother had won the arguement that if she lived alone, her house would be a mess. One of the few arguements her parents had ever won. Throwing a smurf pillow from the couch and onto her bed, she gestured for Analecia to sit down on the now clutter-free couch as she entered the kitchen area. She soon returned with two hot chocolates, placing a mug in front of the girl on the coffee table. Smurf sat on the floor, after removing a stack of books. She sipped her hot chocolate as she watched the girl, slightly curious.
"So, kid, you're from the South, aren't you?" she asked, cocking her head a little. "Name's Lindsay, because my parents are oh so creative," this part was highly sarcastic, accompanyed by a roll of her light grey eyes from behind her pair of glasses. "Everyone call's me Smurf, for obvious reasons," she gestured to the smurf pillow, poster, mug, her blue hair streaks, and the shortness was obvious. "Do you have a name or should I keep calling you 'kid?'" she asked, before grinning slightly. "Blink'd be mad if you stole part of his nickname."

Analecia laughed at Lindsay's last comment and took a sip from the mug that was offered to her. "My name's Analecia Stanton." She introduced herself, smiling widely. "I'm from Reidsville, North Carolina. It's a small town about thirty miles outside of Greensboro. Moving to New York has been a shock." Analecia said. "And don't worry about the mess. After living with my dad all these years, nothing shocks me. I swear, if I weren't there to tell him to pick up his trash, the house would look like a pig-stye." She added, rolling her eyes.

"Gosh, and to think, only a year ago I was wondering if I'd ever make it to the East Coast," Lindsay murmured, shaking her head. Among other dreams, she loved to travel. Well, on airplanes. With a book to read. More than thirty minutes in a car with nothing to do, and she'd go crazy. Her parents, however, weren't big on traveling. She'd hardly been out of the Midwest before.
"You live in New York? I don't. Well, technically, I do, but only because I have to go to school here, and..." Smurf trailed off, realizing she was rambling. "Long story short, I didn't exactly want to come here, but my parents went here when they were younger and forced me to fill out an application. When I first came, I'd rather have been going to SDSU, and that's saying something!"
She laughed, before realizing the girl probably wouldn't get the jokes about the South Dakota University her. Old habits died hard, she suppoused. A sheepish grin slid onto her features, and she continued on.
"Well, as you may have guessed, I'm from South Dakota, Sioux Falls to be exact," she snorted. "Which, ironically, is the biggest town in the state. Doesn't seem too big compared to New York, though. Anyway, Analecia, do you have a nickname yet?" the topic of nicknames were always interesting. Some made sense, like her own, while others were just plain weird.

"I only live in New York because I go to college here. My dad still lives in North Carolina, so I'll be going back home for holidays." Analecia explained.
"So, you're from SD, huh? Is it as cold there as I've heard it is?" She asked. Analecia loved hearing about states she hadn't been to yet. She loved traveling, but hadn't gotten a chance to really see her own country.
"Yeah, I do have a nick name. Some people call me Tink. My dad made it up. He said that I look like a fairy, so instead of saying Tinkerbell, which took too long for him, he called me Tink. It's stuck ever since."

Smurf nodded, smiling. If you knew South Dakota, you only recognized it for three things: the bitter winters, the sweltering summers, or Mount Rushmore. If you only knew about Rushmore, you soon found out about the weather when visiting, unless you were lucky enough to arrive in autumn or spring.
"Well, last year it wasn't too bad. Actually, it was warm for winter. Didn't get snow until early December, which is saying something because we're usually freezing by the end of October," she said with a grin. "But you do get some of the best sledding there!"
Winter really wasn't her favorite season. Like her parents, she enjoyed the snow, hot chocolate, and sledding for a few days before it got...cold. By the time Christmas rolled around, everybody was looking for spring. Autumn, surprisingly, was her favorite season. Well, minus the fact that you had to return to school in the fall.
"Tink?" she smiled. "Looks like we're both named after weird, little creatures. I do believe this is the start of a beautiful friendship, Tink."

Smurf laughed. She had always been laidback and friendly, with just a dash--or so she claimed--of hyperness. People were always saying the Midwest was the nicest place to live with the kindest people. Usually, she managed to prove them right. Taking another sip of her hot chocolate, she was hit with an idea. Her eyes twinlking with mischeif, she put down her smurf mug, picking up a pile of--you guessed it--blue cards.
"Do you know how to play King's Corner, Tink?" she asked, shuffling the deck expertly. While she was no Racetrack Higgins, she was good wtih cards, and since King's Corner was the first game she learned to play, it was her speacility. It wasn't a widely known game, or at least as far as she knew, but it was always fun to teach others.

"No, I haven't heard of that game." Analecia said, then glanced at the stack of cards in Lindsay's hands. "I'm guessing it's a card game. How do you play?" She asked. Analecia was always ready to learn a new card game. She made herself comfortable on the couch, kicking off her low-cut, brown, Converse sneakers, and spreading out her skirt, which she had made of many different ties.

Smurf grinned as she saw the Converse sneakers. "I knew I liked ya, anybody who wears Converse is cool with me." she said, jerking her head to where her own black pair sat, the trademark multi-colored paper clips on the white laces, as always.
After a moment of shuffling, she stopped with the bridge. Content that the pile was decent enough, she began to explain the game. "Each player gets seven cards, don't show them to me," she began, giving seven cards to each of them and then putting the deck down. "You take the first four cards on the top, flip them over, and set them near the four sides of the deck, face up" she stated, doing just that. A red king, black seven, black nine, and red five appeared. "The person to the dealer's right goes first. Every turn, you draw a card. If you forget, among the more experinced players, namely my dad," she rolled her eyes, "you have to take five more from the deck. The object of the game is to run out of cards first. Whenever you draw a king, it gets put in the corners, between two of the cards. Hence the name King's Corner. Kings are the highest, then queens, jacks, tens, ect., aces are the lowest."
"You have to put the cards down in order from highest to lowest. If you had a jack, you'd put it down on a queen. But, there's a catch. If the jack's red, and the queen's red, you can't put it down. The cards have to be opposite colors to place them."
She drew a card, hoping to make an example. The game was so easy when you played it, but so hard to explain. Luckily, it was a red eight she drew, just what she had been looking for. "Alright, if you had this red eight, you could set it on the black nine," she did so, to set an example. "And also move the black seven from its spot to go on the red eight," she did just that, leaving a vacant spot. "Then, you can fill that open spot with some of your cards, as long as they apply to the going down, different colored rule, or just one card," Smurf picked up the eight, moved the seven to its original place, and stuffed the eight in a random area of the deck.
"If you have a king when the dealer flips the four cards, and its your turn, like this," she continued, picking up the king. "You can put it in a corner, thus leaving an opening for you to fill. Also, when you can't do anything else in your turn, you've got to knock on the table," again, her eyes rolled. "Don't ask me why. Sorry I'm not the best teacher. If you need help, I'll help you. You go first, remember to pick up the card before making your move."
Having finally finished her explanation, she picked up her cards, examining them. Not the best for what was on the table, but they'd do fine for a first hand. She waited for Analecia to go, wondering how the girl would fare in the new game.
((Heh, I'm not the best explainer. After a few turns, we can skip to the end of the game. I'll let Analecia have beginner's luck. ))

Anlecia nodded her head. Hoping she could remember all of the rules, she put her card down. "Here goes nothin'." She said, smiling at Lindsay.
(OOC: ok, that'll work fine!)

((ooC: Skipping ahead...Darn my impatience!))
Lindsay gaped as she stared at her opponent's empty hands. It had been the first time in a long time that anybody had beaten her. She glanced at the two remaining cards in her grasp. A black jack and a red two. Ah well, she couldn't have won anyway. Besides, she was prone to beginner's luck herself, often losing several more games afterwards before finally winning another and getting good at the game.
"Beginner's luck," she declared, trying to look upset while grinning. She piled up the cards and shuffled them before placing them in a pile on the small coffee table. "So, where do you want to go?" she glanced at the clock, trying to stiffle a groan. "Too late to get to my other class, so might as well skip it. I haven't been sick so far, so it's an 'unexpected illness' to any teacher who asks."
